Ugh! How frustrating! One of the best parts about living in the sticks is getting to see the stars. Hopefully, he'll change is mind about the need for lights. Good luck!

Hi Farmgirl_dk!

Sadly, no. We only know them well enough to wave at them when we see them outside. Besides it's the type of light that the power company puts up. It comes on with the street lights and goes off at dawn. What's interesting about that is our road doesn't have street lights. The power company will only put them up if they are requested and paid for by the homeowner. But the homeowner doesn't have control over when the light is off or on. The same thing happened to a friend of mine who also lives in the sticks. She came home one evening to the neighbor having installed one of these lights. Her situation is worse than mine in that it really blots out her stars and keeps her horse awake!

Y'all come back!

Oh, I'm sorry! Jim and I were just having this conversation the other night, too. The house on the neighboring property has a huge horse arena. This house was on the market for a while but didn't sell and now appears to be empty. We were remarking on our stars and how clearly we could see them and then I looked to my right and saw the shadow of the horse arena. Whatever new owner moves in there may very well turn on that huge security lamp at the end of the arena that would completely obliterate our star-gazing. (How funny for me to worry about something that hasn't even happened yet, huh?)

But I feel your unhappiness - that really sucks! Are you on pleasant terms with this neighbor that you could have a short and sweet conversation about this?

Hi Gus!

Have you ever heard of some place being called "Seven Stars"? If you have they are referring to the Big Dipper! Just a little piece of star trivia for you! :)

Lots of dogs take dips in the lake between flyball runs! In the summer they put kiddie pools in the parking lots and fill them with water so dogs can take a swim and cool down after playing flyball. Another reason for you to find a team!

We don't know much about the stars either.. We know the Big Dipper and of course the little Dipper..
Wow Flyball near a lake? I would jump in and beg mom to find a stick for me to fetch.. Any water sounds like fun to me unless it involves a bath!!!
